Our State of the Art Production Facility

At Basilur, the quality of the tea that we provide to our customers is our utmost priority. This is why we have ensured that our production facility based in Ceylon is a state-of-the art facility that guarantees we are able to meet the strictest quality, sanitary and hygiene requirements in all our products. Set in a sprawling 6 acre plot of land surrounded by lush greenery, our production facility is encapsulated by nature which gives our employees a unique working environment.

We are a quality-oriented company with a sophisticated manufacturing plant, situated in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Well-equipped with the latest technology and seasoned professionals, we are continuously driven by best industry practices to maximize production standards. In addition to the ‘Grade A’ Tea Tasters, and the state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, we are armed with an optimum in-house laboratory facility, which ensures consistent product safety. Reinventing the wheel at every turn, Basilur continues to introduce innovative solutions to the tea industry worldwide.  

Ceylon Tea

After the introduction of tea cultivation in Sri Lanka, the industry flourished, transforming the country’s economy and landscape. By the late 19th century, Ceylon tea gained global recognition for its quality. The British, who initiated large-scale tea cultivation, established plantations across the island. This led to significant socio-economic changes, including the influx of Tamil laborers from India to work on the estates. Over time, Sri Lanka became one of the world’s leading tea producers, renowned for its distinct flavors and aromas. Today, the tea industry remains a vital component of Sri Lanka’s economy, supporting livelihoods and attracting tourists to its scenic plantations.

The legacy of tea cultivation in Sri Lanka extends beyond economic prosperity, shaping cultural traditions and identities. Tea has become an integral part of Sri Lankan culture, celebrated in rituals, festivals, and daily life. The picturesque tea estates dotting the landscape serve as enduring symbols of the nation’s rich heritage and global significance in the tea industry.
